Koka levél rágás/Chewing coca leaves

A Jó minőségű koka levél sérülés mentes, a szélei töretlenek. Tényleg remek ellenszere a magaslati rosszullétnek. Egyébként a magaslati érzékenység homeopátiás szere a Coca, ami koka levélből készült.

The good quality of coca leaf is without any break-edge. It's intact all around. For chewing put about 10 leaves in your mouth one by one. Chew it and move it inside your mouth until you get a ball. Keep the ball shaped paste between your teeth and the gum so only the liquid gets into the middle of your mouth. It makes your tongue numb, sharpens your senses and you feel more active. Well, it's not my cup of tea. On the other hand its scent and the flavor of the coca tea is excellent. And it is really a good remedy for the high altitude sickness. By the way, the homeopathic remedy is for high altitude sickness also called Coca, and made out of coca leaves.

Ollantaytambo - Fesztivál/Festival

A városka négy napos ünnepléssel köszöntötte a születésnapját. Később találkoztunk velük a tér másik sarkán a sütöde mellett, ahol nyárson sült húst ettek.

The little town celebrated its birthday with a four day festival. A typical village festival. There was a parade, lots of beer, grilled meet, a stage for concerts and a good feeling. Small trucks were decorated for the parade. There were the milk producers' truck, then the corn farmers', then came a truck full with kids from the village. There was a truck for the Inka king and for the stone carvers. And there were old ladies in traditional dresses who were the dancers of the parade.
After the parade we sat down in a little restaurant and had a glass of Pisco sour, when a bunch of 11 and 12 year old boys stopped by and started to have a chat with us. They were on a field trip on the way to Machu Picchu with their teachers and were very interested of foreigners. They wanted to know a bit about us. They were cute and smily. Later on we met again on the main square where they had some shish-kebab for dinner and a cake after. Their face and hands were shiny from the icing. One of them were offering a tiny piece of cake for me which I refused at first, thinking of all the dirt and bacterias on his hand, but he urged me with such an open heart that I finally accepted, thinking that such heartily gesture can't bring sickness. I was right!

Érdekesség/Interesting facts

A folyók itt észak felé folynak.

The rivers flow north here. June 21 is the shortest day of the year and December 21 is the longest. It's opposite to the northern hemisphere.

Maga a völgy 2900 m magasan fekszik. Kőböl építették a házaikat, nád tetővel.

The Inkas loved this valley, they called it Sacred River. The river was one of the most important element in farming. They built their homes on the top of the mountains and built terraces all over, from the bottom of the valley to the side of the mountains. The bottom of the valley is 2900 m high.  Their houses were built from rocks with a straw roof on it. They cut the rocks 2 times bigger than the needed size on the site they found them, then these rocks were pushed and pulled to the building site where they were carved roughly to the actual size, then these rocks were lifted to the place where other people worked on them until they fit perfectly. At the and they were chiseled very smooth if they were used for temples or for a building for the ruling class. Nobody has any idea - except theories - how they moved or lifted these - sometimes 10, 30 or 100 tones - rocks from the top of one of the hill to the top of the other through the valley and the river. All of their buildings are earthquake safe. The walls are leaning back and they didn't use arches.

Peru - Kultúra/Culture

A mai Peru kultúrája a következő sorrendben épült fel:
Mochica kultúra isz.100-800. Nasca i.sz. 400-700. Huari i.sz. 800-1300. Inka 1300-1532. A spanyolok 1532-ben kezdték irányítani a helyet.

Peru's present culture originates from several ethnic groups' culture. First the Mochica from 100-800 AD, the Nasca from 400-700 AD, the Huari from 800-1300 AD and the Inkas from 1300-1532. Of course we shouldn't forget the Spanish influence from 1532 to 1820. When the Spanish arrived they killed all the Inka rulers, the royal family, the priests and everybody else who were close to them. They did't have a hard time since the two royal brother were busy fighting for the throne, therefore the army was very weak. Plus since the Inkas kept all the nearby ethnic groups in slavery it's not a surprise that they were happy to go against them on the side of the Spanish army.. Who likes to work for someone for free? The Inkas made the surrounding ethnic groups move 100 ton rocks, carve them and build towns and temples out of the stones, harvest the crops or fight for them.

Cusco - Én nem enném/I would't eat it

Half a million people live here, they eat guinea pigs, they drink chicha instead of water (fermented corn beer), they have 25 kinds of corn and 3000 kinds of potatoes. Poor guinea pigs :( We have a hamster at home, other people keep guinea pigs. It would be weird to eat one of our family member. In one of the church there was a huge painting of The Last Supper. The artist painted a rosted guinea pig on the middle of the table for dinner and Judas is Fransisco Pizarro, who was the first Spanish ruler in Peru. The trader, as we were told.
